History

Founded by Ted Dykas in 1961, Highett Metal was originally located on the corner of Bay Road and Nepean Hwy in Highett, as our name suggests.

Having many years working in the industry prior to starting Highett Metal, Ted quickly grew a reputation as a major metal dealer and the wheels were set in motion to form a thriving business.

Now run by the second generation of the family, the company proudly remains a role model of organisation and cleanliness in the industry. 

Today

Peter Dykas and Tony Brosnahan have close to 50 years of experience in the metal recycling industry, as metal dealers and metal suppliers, and are dedicated to providing the best possible service to their customers - buyers and sellers alike.

From its small beginnings, Highett Metal has grown to now occupy over 1 hectare of concrete hard stand, with nearly 4000 square metres under roof in the busy industrial zone of Braeside. 


Certifications 

Highett Metal is proud to announce that we have recently been awarded Quality Certification for AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000, one of only a few scrap dealers in Australia that can boast this level of achievement.

We are also licensed by the Chinese Government (AQSIQ) for export of recyclable metal.

AMRIA 

Peter and Tony are founding members of the Australian Metal Recycling Industries Association. AMRIA now represents most of the major scrap metal dealers in Australia. The aim of AMRIA is to protect customer's interests by providing Dealers with a Code of Ethics and a Complaint and Dispute Resolution Service. The Association also focuses on lobbying for effective legislation in favour of recycling.
